KUCHING (Aug 12): The 10th edition of Kuching’s Got Talent drew over 300 participants this year, the oldest being 83 years old.
The competition held in conjunction with the Kuching Festival Fair was divided into singing, dance, and other talent categories for cash prizes totalling RM22,600.
Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan said the talent competition has proven to be a testament of the boundless potential of local talents over the years and acted as a stepping stone for creative talents to be identified by industry experts.
“Yes, education is vital but equally important is the recognition and celebration of their achievements, their dreams, and their unique talents. Kuching’s Got Talent stands as a prime example of this principle.
“As we watch these gifted performers light up the stage, we are reminded that creating value and exposing interests go hand in hand,” he said during the competition’s finale at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) floating stage last night.
Snowdan represented Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Natalie Chai Jia Wei was crowned champion of the singing category for ages 12 and below, Kaylyn Wong Yan Lin came in second, and Ava Chang You Rui was third.
Under the singing category for those aged 13 and above, Mohd Narawi Nadhar Idrus came in first, followed by Felice Chang Ker and Agnes Ling Sing Yue in second and third place.
The SJK Chung Hua Primary 4 dance club won the dance category, while KinAte’s Sprouts was second and Tatakai came in third.
In the other talents category, the top three were Constant Noah Chong, Bung Rentak, and Sync Wave.
