KUCHING (Oct 9) The 4th Sarawak Short Course Sprint (SSCS) is expected to draw more than 550 swimmers from across Southeast Asia when it takes place at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre from Oct 25 to 27.
The meet, which focuses on sprint events, is attracting competitors from the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei and Malaysia.
Organised by the Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) with the support of the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), it provides a platform for swimmers to measure their progress in a fast-paced environment while fostering greater sportsmanship between the competing nations.
“This event is expected to provide valuable experience for upcoming swimmers, especially those eyeing regional and international tournaments,” said PASC founder Voon Yong Hui.
The state-of-the-art Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, named after Malaysia’s renowned Olympic diver Pandelela Rinong, will set the stage for seasoned swimmers and upcoming talents in the region to eye new records and new personal best times.
Voon also expressed the hope that Sarawak swimmers can extend the local tradition of showcasing strong performances as a follow-up to the recent Sukma XXI.
“We hope this will be one of the platforms for our swimmers to prepare for the upcoming SEA Games in Sarawak in 2027,” he added.
Organisers are inviting spectators to witness the “thrilling races” and hope visiting swimmers and teams will experience “the rich culture and hospitality of Sarawak” during their stay.
