KUCHING, June 3: Over RM2.1 billion has been allocated for development in the Kapit Division from 2022 until this year, covering various infrastructure projects and public facilities.

Works Minister and Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the substantial allocation reflects the government’s continued commitment to ensuring that rural and interior areas such as Kapit are not left behind in the State’s development agenda.

“It is the harmony and unity upheld by both the Sarawak government and the federal government that ensure the State’s development and the well-being of the people are safeguarded,” he said in a social media post on Tuesday (June 2).

He added that this close partnership is also key to maintaining social cohesion, ensuring that the spirit of unity and harmony among the people remains strong despite the rapid pace of modernisation.

“The harmony and unity we have must continue to be preserved, as it is the foundation of stability and progress for the people,” he said.

Nanta made the remarks during a Gawai celebration at Rh Peter, Tatai Emas Amang in Kapit, where residents of the longhouse gathered in a festive atmosphere with families and community members of all ages celebrating the harvest festival in a spirit of togetherness.

He said such gatherings reflect the strong communal values and cultural heritage of the Dayak community, which continue to be a source of pride in Kapit.

He also expressed appreciation to the Tuai Rumah, organising committee, and residents of Rh Peter for their warm hospitality.

In a separate engagement earlier, Nanta joined residents of Rumah Ilie, Nanga Sebabu, Sungai Sebabu, for Gawai celebrations with the local community.

During the visit, he also presented RM23,000 in contributions to the residents of the 23-door longhouse, aimed at supporting community needs and strengthening local welfare initiatives.
“May this contribution be well utilised for the common good and help strengthen the well-being of the longhouse residents,” he said.

Nanta noted that such engagements not only allow leaders to celebrate festivals with the people, but also provide an opportunity to listen to grassroots concerns and strengthen ties with rural communities. — DayakDaily
