KUCHING (July 30): Works under the RM54.9-million Package 3D water supply project, covering Kota Samarahan, Sebuyau and Simunjan, are at 94.83 per cent completion stage, says Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi.
According to the Sebuyau assemblyman, the project involves building a supply main across the Batang Sadong Bridge, replacing and relocating pipes in the Sebangan and Sebuyau areas, and other related works across Samarahan Division.
“This water project is part of Sarawak’s master water supply plan, funded by the state government.
“Upon completion, this system in Samarahan Division will become part of Sarawak’s water grid in the southern zone which eventually, it (the grid) will cover the entire state once all the projects reach completion,” he stated in a Facebook post.
The works involve installing 355mm high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes over a 15.3km stretch across Sebangan and Sebuyau, and 600mm mild steel cement-lined (MSCL) pipes along the Batang Sadong Bridge for the Simunjan and Sebuyau areas, including Kampung Sungai Ladong.
“By September 2024, the project should provide treated water to Simunjan, improve the water pressure there, and also upgrade the distribution system across Sebangan and Sebuyau,” said Julaihi.
According to him, other fully-completed works packages in the Samarahan Division include Package 1D worth RM22.98 million, involving a booster pump station in Kampung Baru; Package 2A (RM147 million), involving high-level tanks and booster pumps in Tambirat, Moyan Laut/Semera, Asajaya and Sadong Jaya; Package 3A (RM31.8 million), involving pipeline and high-level tank in Sungai Ladong; and Package 3B (RM22.8 million) involving a pipeline and high-level tank in Sebangan.
The others are Package 3C (RM36.7 million), involving a booster pump and high-level tank in Tebelu, as well as a high-level tank in Sebuyau; Package 3E (RM15 million) involving strengthening works on the Batang Sadong Bridge structure and installation of 600mm pipes, affecting the works schedule for Package 3D; and Package 3F (RM10.1 million) involving replacement of pipelines in Sungai Ladong, Sebangan, Tebedu and Sebuyau.
Last Saturday, Julaihi conducted inspection on the site in Sadong Jaya to review the latest progress of the Package 3D water supply project.
He was accompanied by Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) director Awang Mohammad Fadillah Awang Redzuan, JBALB Samarahan divisional water engineer Adzahari Baini, and Sebuyau district officer Ayuradiman Bujang.
Joining them was Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, who had attended a programme together with Julaihi earlier that day.
