Pakistani grocery shop owner in KK charged with physical sexual assault on 9-year-old girl

KOTA KINABALU (March 9): A grocery shop owner has been charged in the Sessions Court here with committing physical sexual assault against a nine-year-old girl.

The Pakistani man, aged 33, who appeared before Judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan, was charged under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

The charge carries a jail term of up to 20 years in prison and caning upon conviction.

No plea was recorded from the man.

According to the charge, the man allegedly touched the girl’s right breast at a grocery shop in Inanam on Feb 5.

The court adjourned the case to April 20 pending the availability of a Pashton interpreter.

The man will be further detained in custody while awaiting disposal of his case.

Deputy public prosecutor Bryan Francis appeared for the prosecution while the Pakistani man did not have legal representation.
