Adrian with Missclyen, who suffers from Congenital Generalized Hypertrichosis or also termed ‘werewolf syndrome’ during his visit to the family in Bintulu.
PAPAR (March 10): Parental advice and support continue to push Adrian Edy to do more in helping those who are less fortunate than him.
The Papar-born community activist often attracts attention whenever he reaches out to the hardcore poor, the elderly folks, individuals with disabilities (PwD), or anyone struck down by misfortune.
“My parents remind me to always do good to anyone, regardless of race, religion or background.
“They always instil in me the spirit of sharing our blessings with those in need, as it is a noble practice in the eyes of God,” said Adrian when met.
Throughout the journey, the activist said he had met some individuals living all alone in forest areas; those with heartbreaking physical disabilities; and also children who lost their parents to illness and tragic accidents.
“My heart is deeply moved whenever I see such circumstances. It is difficult to put into words, and at times, tears flow upon witnessing the suffering that they endure.
“Nevertheless, I continue to pray that they are always protected by God and given the strength to carry on with their lives,” he said.
Additionally, Adrian carries out charity work at places of worship such as suraus and churches, where he facilitates the contribution of basic necessities including tables and chairs as well as cooking equipment to be used by the congregations.
The Sabahan also reaches out to those in need in Sarawak.
Recently, he visited Kampung Penan Muslim in Bintulu to meet Missclyen, a child living with Congenital Generalised Hypertrichosis (CGH).
In many medical reports, the condition is regarded as among the rarest in the world, with only about 50 individuals globally are known to be affected.
During the visit, Adrian delivered daily necessities and financial assistance to Missclyen’s family to support the girl’s schooling needs and also alleviate their burden.
“My hope is for more individuals to come forward and extend assistance to those who are less fortunate, regardless of location.
“I also hope that the government, through the relevant agencies, would continue to intensify efforts to locate these groups so that they can receive the assistance they deserve,” he said.
