MARUDI, May 8: Search and rescue (SAR) operations for a missing elderly fisherman ended on today after partial human remains were discovered, believed to be linked to a crocodile attack.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Marudi, the 64-year-old man, was reported missing after he failed to return home following a fishing trip near Jalan Industri Sungai Ridan on Thursday (May 7).

He was last seen at about 5.50pm after villagers found his motorcycle parked near the riverbank, with his fishing gear and clothing left under a nearby bridge. Initial search efforts were carried out at the scene, but the victim could not be located.

Authorities were alerted at about 9.20pm on Thursday, prompting the deployment of a firefighters team from Bomba Marudi.

On the SAR operation today, search teams expanded efforts involving the Bomba, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Civil Defence Force (APM), and local villagers, using multiple boats within a search radius of up to eight kilometres.

At around 10.52am, rescuers discovered partial human remains consisting of both legs, a head, and one arm. The remains were believed to have been attacked by a crocodile.

Despite continued searches throughout the day, no additional body parts were found. The operation was officially called off at 4pm, and the recovered remains were handed over to police for further investigation. — DayakDaily
