KUCHING, Dec 21: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has stepped in to improve patient and visitor comfort at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) by donating waiting chairs and medical equipment based on the hospital’s identified needs.

The initiative was highlighted during the 2nd United Nations (UN) World Meditation Day event held at SGH today, where MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng spoke about the importance of community support for public healthcare facilities.

“Stress often begins at a young age and grows over time through education, career, or daily challenges, making it essential for people to find ways to relieve pressure.

“To achieve true calm, we must learn to release stress and worries. When we do, our minds become clearer, and decision-making improves,” he said at the event today officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.

He added that meditation not only helps clear the mind but also encourages creative thinking and better problem-solving.

By linking mental well-being to public support, Wee urged the community to understand the challenges faced by hospitals and healthcare workers in high-pressure environments.

“Criticism is easy, but we can also contribute. If there are basic needs that can be supported, give yourself the chance to do good,” he said, citing MBKS’s donation as an example of practical help that directly benefits patients and visitors. — DayakDaily
