MIRI (Feb 6): The Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) has launched three new party branches in Marudi, Telang Usan and Mulu, marking a significant move to rebuild and strengthen its grassroots presence in Sarawak’s interior.

The initiative reflects PBDS’s strategic effort to consolidate its organisational structure in Baram and re-establish itself as a key political force among interior communities.

PBDS deputy president Dr Bernard Tahim officiated the launch yesterday with a symbolic strike of the gong, signifying the formal commencement of party operations and mobilisation efforts in preparation for the 13th Sarawak state election, which is expected to be called this year.

According to PBDS information chief Sigie Badang, the establishment of the three branches is aimed at reinforcing the party’s grassroots machinery while enabling closer engagement with local communities.

The event drew additional attention with the presence

“PBDS remains committed to championing Native Customary Rights (NCR) land, balanced development, social justice and a more just and equitable political future for the Dayak community through democratic means,” he said.

The event drew additional attention with the presence of former Temenggong Pahang Ding.

PBDS described the attendance of the former Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB) supporter as a symbol of continuity in Dayak leadership and as lending moral support to the party’s ongoing struggle.

PBDS reaffirmed its commitment to championing Native Customary Rights (NCR) land, balanced development, social justice and a more just and equitable political future for the Dayak community through democratic means.

The party also reiterated its determination to ensure that the voices of Dayak communities in the interior continue to be represented in democratic processes.

PBDS previously secured electoral victories in Marudi under the late Datuk Edward Jeli and in Telang Usan under the late Datuk Seri Joseph Balan Seling during the 1987 state election.
