SANDAKAN (Feb 9): Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has reiterated its commitment to multiracial politics, welcoming the participation and leadership of the Chinese community as part of its inclusive struggle in Sabah.
Acting PBS president Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam said the party upholds equality among all its members, regardless of race, religion or background.
“The struggle of PBS has never faded and has never changed.
“We practise equality among all members.
“Whoever is qualified to lead the party, we will support them all the way to the highest level,” he said during the PBS New Members Intake Programme organised by PBS Tanjung Papat (N.56) at the Girl Guides Hall in Batu 3, Sri Taman, here on Sunday.
As PBS approaches its 41st anniversary, Joachim emphasised the need for leadership from all communities, including the Chinese, to ensure the continuity of the party’s mission in Sabah.
He also highlighted on the growing support for Chinese candidates in local-based parties in recent general elections, stressing that PBS does not differentiate members based on race, religion, or political ideology.
“At the state level, we will continue to defend the interests of every resident of Sabah.
“Likewise, within the party, the welfare of members will always be a priority,” he said.

Joachim reaffirmed that PBS is a genuinely multiracial party and open to membership from all ethnic groups in the state.
“I believe your sincerity in joining PBS is driven by the desire to serve the people and the state.
“However, if one enters politics solely for personal gain, it would be better not to join at all,” he warned.
Meanwhile, organising chairman and PBS Tanjung Papat deputy chief Nelson Sikin said the programme clearly demonstrated that PBS’s struggle belongs to all Sabahans, not any single race.
“We warmly welcome all new members as part of the extended PBS family,” he said.
The programme saw the induction of 150 new members, led by Alex Tan Chun Yaw.
Also present were PBS treasurer-general Datuk Lu Kim Yen; PBS vice-president Datuk Linda Tsen; PBS Youth Exco chief Datuk Christoper Mandut; vice-presidents; Supreme Council members; PBS Tanjung Papat division chief David Ong; PBS division chiefs; and committee members from the Youth and Women’s wings in the Sandakan parliamentary constituency.
