KUCHING (March 25): The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) must uphold integrity and reject any compromise that could undermine public confidence, said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Mohd Khalid Ismail.
He stressed that credibility and accountability remain key benchmarks by which the public evaluates the force’s actions and decisions.
“PDRM will not act based on pressure or public perception, but will remain guided by integrity, the rule of law, and established standard operating procedures.
“The force firmly rejects any compromise that could tarnish its image or erode public trust,” he said in a speech delivered by Sarawak Deputy Commissioner of Police Saifullizan Ishak during the Kuching district police headquarters-level 219th Police Day celebration.
The event was attended by a total of 180 participants, including senior and junior police officers as well as civil staff.
Mohd Khalid acknowledged that recent criticism of the police was partly driven by dissatisfaction and provocation from certain quarters, but emphasised the force must remain professional in handling such challenges.
He noted that the theme “Police and Community are Inseparable” reflects the strong, symbiotic relationship between the police and the public in maintaining peace and security.
The IGP said PDRM will continue to strengthen engagement with stakeholders to maintain public confidence in its capabilities, in line with a community policing approach.
He added that the force, now in its 219th year, has remained resilient through challenges from the colonial era to the digital age, and must continue enhancing service delivery to meet increasingly complex security demands.
“Looking ahead, the force will be guided by three main focus areas, alongside seven strategic directions and ten transformation agendas, to further strengthen its role as a professional, efficient, and respected law enforcement agency,” he said.
Mohd Khalid also expressed appreciation to all members of the force, from top leadership to frontliners and retirees, for their service and sacrifices, while paying tribute to fallen personnel who served the nation.
He called on officers and personnel to remain steadfast in carrying out their responsibilities to ensure the country’s continued peace, stability, and prosperity.
The celebration concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and a cake-cutting ceremony.
