KUCHING, June 21: PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) continues to strengthen its used cooking oil (UCO) collection initiative by expanding its network to 100 collection stations nationwide.
The event celebrating this milestone was held at the PETRONAS Parit Bintang Station and officiated by the Minister of Plantations and Commodities Datuk Seri Dr. Noraini Ahmad.
The program was also attended by various parties, including government agencies, industry partners, and the local community, reflecting a collaborative approach to reinforcing sustainability practices and the circular economy.
The initiative aims to make it easier for the public to convert kitchen waste into a source of side income while supporting environmental preservation through the proper disposal of used cooking oil. The collected used oil will be processed for further use, including the production of alternative fuels.
PDB Chief Operating Officer Azureen Azita Abdullah, stated that the response received so far demonstrates an increasing public awareness regarding the importance of responsible waste management.
“As of March 2026, PDB’s used cooking oil collection initiative has expanded to 100 stations nationwide, successfully collecting over 1.6 million kilograms of UCO. This initiative has also generated approximately RM4.8 million in returns for more than 560,000 participants.
“This proves that small household habits can yield a major impact, not only on the environment but also on society as a whole,” she said.
“Through innovation and technology, used cooking oil collected from kitchens across Malaysia now has the potential to be processed into cleaner fuel for the aviation sector, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This shows that everyday waste can be given new value as part of a more sustainable energy solution,” Azureen added.
By providing UCO collection facilities at selected PETRONAS stations nationwide, PDB continues to expand access to convenient, safe and responsible disposal of used cooking oil, in line with efforts to strengthen the nation’s sustainability agenda and circular economy. — DayakDaily
