KUCHING, March 5: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) handed out 250 baskets of basic necessities and festive biscuits to families in Bekenu ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri during the company’s Memacu Kehidupan: Hari Raya Aidilfitri Programme 2026 held at Sibuti Arena, Bekenu on March 3.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the programme was officiated by Deputy Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Rosey Yunus and organised by PETRONAS Sarawak, Miri.
Rosey urged the community to preserve cultural heritage and traditions to strengthen unity among the district’s diverse ethnic groups.
She also acknowledged the participation of local Chinese, Iban and Muslim community leaders, noting that such collaboration added vibrancy to the event.
“The Subis District was chosen for the distribution of basic goods baskets to those in need, directly benefiting rural and interior communities.
“Thank you to PETRONAS for its continued commitment to supporting the local community,” she said.
Rosey further highlighted that while PETRONAS is widely known as an oil and gas company, its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives demonstrate the company’s ongoing effort to share blessings, especially during Ramadan.
Meanwhile, Abang Ahmad Zaidi Abg Seruji, General Manager of PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Asset), said the programme is part of the company’s ongoing community support initiatives.
“In conjunction with this year’s Aidilfitri, 250 baskets containing basic food items and festive biscuits were handed out to families and individuals in need around Bekenu.
“Previously, over 200 baskets were distributed in Niah and Bekenu during Chinese New Year,” he stated.
The event also featured a symbolic handover of essential goods and a breaking-of-fast with the local community, reflecting PETRONAS’ commitment to ensuring that the spirit and joy of Aidilfitri reaches all residents of the Subis District. — DayakDaily
