ADVERTISE HERE
MIRI (Oct 5): The Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) Malaysia 2024 Stage Seven participants, involving a total of 132 cyclists from 22 teams, were flagged off from Miri Waterfront here this morning.
The participants were released to their next and final destination in Bintulu by Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin at 11.15am.
When met after the flagging off ceremony, the Senadin assemblyman said Miri is a suitable location for bicycle races because it has a suitable terrain for organising races of international standard.
“Miri is also a great location for other events, including yachting, because we have a marina here,” he said.
Lee hoped sporting events held here could help promote Miri as a resort city and he looked forward to more international-level events held here.
“We hope to see more international sporting events or other similar events held in Miri as this would further promote Miri to outsiders,” he said.
The Stage Seven race involves a distance of 199.3 kilometres and is the longest route in the race. The finishing line will be at Lasar Kenyalang in Bintulu, where Stage Eight of the race would be flagged off from.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat, National Sports Council director general Abdul Rashid Yaakub and Petrons Group Strategic Relations and Communications vice president Nooruddin Liew.
