SIBU (Sept 19): Petronas has launched its ROVR (mobile refueling service) petrol station programme in Pulau Bruit in Daro today that benefits local residents and fishermen.
According to Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Abdullah Saidol, the programme was a result of Petronas’ collaboration with the Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM) Sarawak through the Bruit Area Fishermen’s Association (PNK).
“The ROVR petrol station will benefit the local residents and fishermen, and at the same time help improve the socio-economic well-being of rural communities, especially in Pulau Bruit,” he said at the launching ceremony.
Abdullah, who is Semop assemblyman, said Petronas, LKIM and the Bruit PNK have a common goal, which is to improve the quality of life and promote the sustainability of communities and fishermen in Pulau Bruit.
“One way is to provide easy access to fuel supplies through the provision of Petronas ROVR petrol stations.
“Currently, there are six Petronas ROVR petrol stations operating in Sarawak, namely at Long Tebila, Sebuyau, Lundu, Kuala Tatau, Julau and Pulau Bruit.
“The ROVR is fully managed by Petronas Dagangan Berhad (PDB), one of the subsidiaries of Petronas,” he said.
Additionally, Abdullah said that Petronas through PDB allocates 60,000 litres of petrol every month to ensure the needs and demands of the population, consisting of more than 10,000 people and seven villages, close to the ROVR petrol station.
He also highlighted that the ROVR petrol station started operation in November 2023, where the residents of Pulau Bruit have enjoyed the same petrol price elsewhere at RM2.05 (RON95) per litre.
Separately, a safety briefing was also staged to help bring awareness to the local fishing community especially those carrying out fishing activities and catching fish in the vicinity of the oil rig area
The briefing was held in collaboration with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Tanjung Manis maritime zone as a proactive measure to avoid security incidents, especially when fishing boats approach and enter the ‘restricted zone’ that is within a distance of 500 meters from an oil and gas rig.
