KUCHING (March 6): Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) has formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jabatan Tenaga Manusia (JTM) to establish a collaborative framework with the Advanced Technology Training Centre (ADTEC JTM) Miri Campus.
According to a Petros press release, the collaboration involves Petros working across ADTEC campuses in Sarawak to deliver a competency-based, industry-aligned training model.
This is aimed at equipping more than 500 Sarawakians in 2026 with high-demand trade skills, including welding, scaffolding, blasting and painting, mechanical fitting, and pipe fitting.
Participants will earn essential industry-recognised certifications including Oil&Gas Safety Passport (OGSP) and the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB)
The ceremony held on Thursday was attended by Department of Manpower (JTM) director general Datuk Rospiagos Taha and Ministry of Education, Innovation as well as Talent Development (MEITD) deputy permanent secretary Aniellia Siam.
Representing Petros was its senior vice president Ismail Said.
Ismail said that as projects under the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) progress, the demand for a highly capable and well-prepared workforce will grow.
“This makes collaboration with training partners increasingly important to ensure Sarawakians gain relevant skills, practical exposure and confidence to participate in these opportunities,” he said.
Meanwhile, Petros said this initiative is a core component of Petros Elevate (Empowering Learning, Advancing Talent Employability) formerly known as the Train and Place Programme, which creates a structured pathway from capability building to employment.
Since its inception, the Elevate Programme has benefited more than 500 Sarawakians through various industry collaborations supporting the objectives of SGR and the Post-Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Job seekers, including Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) school leavers seeking to upskill or transition into the industry, are encouraged to contact ADTEC JTM Miri Campus at https://www.ilpmiri.gov.my/ for further information on intake requirements and application procedures, while awaiting the participation of other campuses.
