KOTA BELUD (Nov 30): State assemblyman-elect for Pintasan, Datuk Fairuz Renddan, has reaffirmed his commitment to prioritise youth development as the central thrust of his struggle.

He said that everything he had previously embarked upon would be carried forward — especially for the people of Pintasan and the youth across the state of Sabah.

“Our development agenda will proceed as usual, and we will focus on human capital and youth development.

“What I fight for is the voice of every resident of Pintasan, the voice of Sabah’s youth and this must be my priority as a people’s representative,” he told reporters after the election results were declared here late Saturday night.

He added that he would support the government bloc to ensure that the obligations and struggles entrusted to him by the people could continue to be carried out.

“Today, we have proven that the voice of the people is real, the voice of Sabah’s youngsters is valid, and we are on the right path of struggle. What matters is that as a people’s representative, we carry the people’s fight, not personal interests,” he said.

Fairuz noted that a political party is merely a platform for a leader to engage in politics, but what is more important is the spirit to uphold the people’s voice.

“A party is only a platform. Right now I am not with any party. I am independent and I will support the government but not at the expense of my principles. I am a free man of conviction, dignity, and I will defend this in every endeavour I undertake,” he clarified.

He added that the victory stemmed from the people’s voice, and the top leadership must heed it.

“If we work hard, then this is the answer, the result of our effort and hard work,” Fairuz said.

Fairuz won and will resume his duties as state assemblyman for Pintasan for a second term, securing 4,657 votes and defeating the candidate from the Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) by a majority of 1,070 votes.
