Pipeline bursts to disrupt water supply in parts of Sibu tonight (March 3)

SIBU (March 3): Several areas here will face a temporary water supply disruption on Tuesday following two major pipeline bursts at Jalan Brother Albinus, Pusat Tanahwang, and the junction of Lorong Oya 27.

Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Water) central regional office said repair works are scheduled to begin at 10pm tonight and are expected to continue until 10am tomorrow (March 4), with an estimated duration of 12 hours.

Water supply will be temporarily shut down during this period to facilitate repairs.

The affected areas include Jalan Salim (Sentosa, Taman Kenari, Bukit Lima Timur, Belatok, Jerrwit, Saujana), Jalan Lada, Sukun and Then KS; Jalan Upper Lanang to Tg Kunyit, Paradom, Kampung Banyok, Selalo and Sungai Assan; Jalan Lanang to Sibu town; Jalan Brooke Drive, Jalan Brother Albinus and Jalan Wong Soon Kai; Jalan Oya to Oya Lama (Jalan RTM, Jalan Unggas, Jalan Pahlawan, Jalan Pelangi, Jalan Sena, Jalan Payung, Jalan Camar, Jalan Diong Kik, Jalan Seladah and Jalan Kandis); Kampung Datu to Kampung Nangka; areas beyond Deshon bus stop (Jalan Apollo, Lilin, Sungai Merah, Kuang, Ulu Sungai Merah 1–31, Kwong Ann, Teng Chin Hua, Old Airport, Ding Lik Kong, Getah, Teku Barat, Disa and IPD Sungai Merah); areas beyond Teku bus stop (Jalan Quarry, Indah, Wawasan, Setia, Serai and along Jalan Teku to Pasai Siong, Rantau Panjang and Tg Kibong); and the entire stretch from Jalan Sungai Maaw to Bawang Assan.

Water tankers will be mobilised upon request and prioritised for essential services, subject to availability.

Traffic management measures have been implemented, with half of the affected road section temporarily closed to ensure safe repair works. Motorists are advised to adhere to traffic instructions when passing through the area.

Sarawak Water said its technical team is on-site and working to complete the repairs as quickly and safely as possible. Water supply will be restored in stages once works are completed and system pressure stabilises.

Consumers are advised to store sufficient water for their needs and allow time for supply to normalise after restoration.
