The orphans at the PJKAYS iftar event.
KOTA KINABALU (March 9): Pertubuhan Jaringan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Sabah (PJKAYS) continued its annual tradition of hosting orphans and disadvantaged children to a breaking of fast (Iftar) event in conjunction with Ramadan at a local hotel here on Saturday night.
The social responsibility initiative witnessed 80 of these less fortunate children sharing the joyful moment of breaking fast, from a spiritual and communal enrichment to reflect PJKAYS’s commitment to capture the spirit of sharing and caring during this holy month.
PJKAYS president, Datuk Eddie Abdullah disclosed that this was the biggest session they have hosted since the inaugural one in 2019 with 80 children drawn from five orphanage and care centres in Kota Belud, Ranau and Tambunan districts.
They were Rumah Anak Yatim (RAY) Darul Bakti Kota Belud, RAY Tambunan, Rumah Putera Harapan Ranau, Madrasah Tumah Transit Mualaf Sabah and Pusat Jagaan Anak Yatim Dan Asnaf Kg Silad Ranau.
This breaking of fast was a collaboration between PJKAYS and Boustead DCNS Naval Corporation Sdn Bhd (BDNC) as the main sponsor, along with contributions from Clariant Oil Services (M) Sdn Bhd and Kenny Ngalin from Ocean Vantage Holdings Berhad as well as generous individuals.
Eddie particularly pointed out that BDNC, who was represented by their CEO Azharnorhisham Che Din, had been a strategic partner of PJKAYS over the years.
“The presence of sponsors indicated their strong support towards welfare activities and this becomes our inspiration to continue working with the orphans and disadvantaged children.”
He added that PJKAYS will continue to assist the orphans, not only for seasonal events like this one, but through programmes that will bring long-term benefits for the orphans.
“With the support from all parties, we believe that more and more orphans and disadvantaged children will get the opportunities to build a better future for themselves.”
Also present at the iftar were Karlos Gusting, the management representative from Clariant Oil Services, management representatives from the orphanage centres and PJKAYS executive committee.
