KOTA SAMARAHAN (March 14): Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh has declined to reveal how many seats the party plans to contest in the upcoming Sarawak state election.
When asked about the matter, she remained tight-lipped, saying the decision would be announced at a later stage.
“It is our strategy, and we will announce it later,” she told reporters when asked after the Hari Raya Puasa 2026 Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme walkabout at Farley Supermarket here.
Also present during the walkabout were Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin, state enforcement chief Mohamad Khairi Jamaludin, KPDN Putrajaya price control unit chief Mohd Nor Iskandar Zainoor, and Farley Kota Samarahan manager Eiyen Lau.
Fuziah, who is also KPDN Deputy Minister, also highlighted the strong turnout at PKR’s short-notice mini convention in Kuching on Friday, which indicated that the party remains active in the state.
The convention, held at Penview Convention Centre in Demak Laut, drew encouraging attendance despite being organised at short notice.
“The convention was held because the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PKR’s president, was in the state. Therefore he requested for the convention to be held,” she said.
During the convention, Anwar told attendees that PKR is not merely a political organisation but a movement driven by the determination to bring change, uphold justice and elevate the dignity of the people.
He said national progress must benefit all segments of society and not be confined to the elite.
“From issues involving native customary land in Sarawak to the plight of the people in Sabah, Kelantan, Perlis and Johor, the party has always been firm in carrying the voice of the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, in a Facebook post, urged party members in Sarawak to strengthen their machinery and grassroots organisation ahead of the election.
“Preparations of the party machinery, empowerment of the grassroots as well as the organisation of work and communication must be strengthened so that we can achieve a strong victory in the election,” he said.
