BUKIT MERTAJAM, May 26: Malaysia’s petrol and diesel supplies are expected to remain sufficient at least until July despite ongoing uncertainty in the global energy market caused by geopolitical conflicts.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia’s good diplomatic relations with foreign countries, including Iran, have helped ensure that the country’s oil supply routes remain unaffected so far.

He noted that vessels carrying fuel supplies to Malaysia were among the first allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz before arriving at Pengerang.

“So far, Malaysia’s oil supply remains sufficient. We pray that the situation remains stable because these good relations help ensure that our oil supplies are adequate at least until July and August.

“In several other countries, supply disruptions have already occurred. During the recent Asean meeting in Cebu, Philippines, I witnessed long queues and around 400 petrol stations being closed. Alhamdulillah, we have not reached that stage,” he said today at the Madani Parliamentary Constituency Sacrificial Cattle Distribution Ceremony for Permatang Pauh, held at the grounds of the Central Seberang Perai District Mosque in Bandar Perda, Penang, today, as reported by TVS.

Meanwhile, Anwar said that although there has been a slight increase in the prices of goods due to higher insurance costs and shipping expenses through the Strait of Hormuz, the government has maintained the price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre.

He added that Malaysia remains among the countries offering the lowest fuel prices in the world, alongside Brunei.

“As for diesel, despite the price adjustment, the government continues to provide various forms of assistance through the Budi Madani programme to farmers, fishermen, school bus operators and the transportation sector,” he said. — DayakDaily
