The drugs are estimated to be worth RM29,700.

Initial urine screening tests showed the suspect tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and ketamine. Police also confirmed that the man has one prior criminal record.

The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The suspect has been remanded for three days, from Jan 25 to Jan 27, under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist investigations.

On the same day, at around 10.50pm, police carried out a second raid at a residential unit, also along Jalan Durian Burung. During the operation, officers arrested five individuals; two local men aged 21 and 45, along with three foreign women aged 20, 25 and 28.

A search of the premises resulted in the seizure of a steel straw tube containing white powder suspected to be ketamine, weighing 0.47 gram, with an estimated market value of RM80.

Urine screening tests found both male suspects and two of the female suspects tested positive for drugs, while one female suspect tested negative. Checks revealed that both male suspects have one prior criminal record each, while the remaining suspects have no criminal records.

The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. All five suspects have been remanded for three days, from Jan 25 to Jan 27, under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to assist with investigations.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu said the successful operations were the result of continuous intelligence gathering and cooperation from the public.

“The Royal Malaysian Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug distribution. Possessing, distributing or protecting drug activities is a serious offence under the law,” he said in a statement.

He added that the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department remains committed to combating drug abuse to protect both present and future generations, stressing that drugs remain the nation’s number one enemy.
