SIBU (April 2): A state-level anti-bullying and drug prevention education campaign has been launched here, bringing together police, educators and students to promote safer school environments.

Sibu police chief ACP Azari Miskon stressed the importance of early awareness and collective responsibility in addressing bullying and drug abuse among students.

“Bullying and drug abuse are serious issues that can affect the future of our young generation.

“Through programmes like this, we aim to instil awareness and encourage students to report incidents, while fostering a safe and supportive school environment,” he said at the launch at SK Bandaran Sibu No. 3 here on Tuesday.

The campaign, organised through a collaboration between the Sarawak State Education Department and Pemadam Sarawak, was held at the school hall in Jalan Jasmin, Kampung Nangka.

Azari said strong cooperation between police and schools is crucial in shaping disciplined, responsible and drug-free youths.

“We will continue to work closely with schools through community policing initiatives, including school liaison officers, to ensure preventive measures are effectively implemented,” he said.

The event was attended by senior officers, school liaison officers, representatives from the Sarawak State Education Department and school administrators.

Highlights included talks on anti-bullying and drug awareness, interactive quizzes, the official campaign launch and a token presentation ceremony.

The programme received an encouraging response from students and staff, reflecting strong support for efforts to nurture a safe and drug-free learning environment.
