KUCHING, June 22: With Bintulu Port’s administration returning to Sarawak, Bintulu is poised to further strengthen its strategic role as an industrial, energy and logistics hub, creating greater opportunities for investment, quality employment, and regional economic growth.

In a Facebook post, Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing described the transition of Bintulu Port from a federal port to a State port as a new chapter in Sarawak’s growth journey and reflects the strong commitment of both the federal and Sarawak governments to work hand in hand in advancing the nation’s development.

“As highlighted by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the development of Bintulu Port was itself a major achievement made possible through close collaboration between the federal and State governments.

“The transition symbolises Sarawak’s continued progress and growing economic capacity as it enters a new phase of development. It is not merely a transfer of administrative authority, but an important milestone in Sarawak’s development story,” he said.

Tiong, who is also the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture and assemblyman for Dudong, added that he looked forward to seeing more meaningful achievements delivered through the continued close partnership between the federal and Sarawak governments.

On Sunday (June 21), Bintulu Port was officially handed over to the Sarawak government from the federal government through the presentation of a RM1.8 billion cheque by Abang Johari to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following the signing of a Tripartite Agreement and a Completion Agreement between the federal government, the Sarawak government, and Bintulu Port. — DayakDaily
