KUCHING (Jan 15): The Pertubuhan Pengguna Sarawak (PPS) has received a formal complaint from an apartment resident concerning the theft of two car wheels that occurred in the apartment’s parking area.

It said the complainant had parked their vehicle in a designated parking bay within the apartment compound on Dec 31, 2025, only to discover the following day that two of the wheels were missing.

The complainant lodged a police report for investigations, including a review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, before submitting a formal complaint to PPS for further action.

The organisation described the incident as “highly unacceptable and unreasonable”.

“Members of the public choose to live in apartments on the basis of trust that such residences offer better security, proper management, and a safe living environment.

“However, when a crime of this nature can occur overnight in an area that supposedly has security controls in place, serious questions arise. Where is the assurance of safety and where does the responsibility of the management lie?” it said in a statement.

PPS said that they had contacted the management of the apartment to seek an official explanation, but no concrete action has been taken to date, with the management stating the case was still under review.

It urged the management to address the matter promptly and seriously to provide residents with a fair and transparent explanation.

“The maintenance fees paid monthly by residents are not solely for parking facilities, but also include the provision of basic security guarantees and protection that should be reasonably expected.

“In line with the rapid development of apartment-type housing in Sarawak, security must be given higher priority. This incident should not be regarded as an isolated case, but serve as an important reminder to all apartment management to not take the safety of residents lightly,” it said.

PPS stressed that they would continue to monitor further developments for this case, and urged the public to contact them at 017-710 9299 to lodge complaints or enquire about consumer issues.
