KUCHING, March 29: Details of Sarawak’s planned assistance package to cushion the impact of rising prices will be announced following the upcoming State Cabinet meeting.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said while the Sarawak government has already agreed in principle to provide aid, the specifics are still being finalised at the Cabinet level.

“We will hold a meeting first. In the Cabinet, I have already indicated that we will provide some assistance to address the current challenges. It will be announced after the Cabinet meeting,” he was quoted as saying by TVS after officiating SMK Long Lama Baram’s 60th anniversary dinner in Miri last night (March 28).

His remarks signal a clearer timeline for the rollout of the aid, following earlier indications that the Sarawak government was reviewing measures to help the public cope with rising living costs.

The assistance is aimed at easing the burden on the people amid rising prices of goods and fuel linked to ongoing tensions in West Asia.

The situation escalated following attacks involving Israel and the United States on Iran, which were followed by retaliatory strikes by Tehran on American interests in Gulf countries. – DayakDaily
