KUCHING, Jan 12: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has voiced his resoluteness in ensuring the realisation of the crucial Sarawak Cancer Centre, including financial support from the Sarawak government if necessary.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad revealed that the Premier conveyed this resolve during the former’s courtesy visit earlier today at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.

Speaking to the press during a visit to the Petra Jaya Hospital site later, Dr Dzulkefly shared insights from the meeting, highlighting discussions on Sarawak’s aspirations under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) agenda which encompasses aspects such as  infrastructure, governance, human resources, and work positions, with a specific emphasis on the healthcare sector.

“Our meeting went very well. The Premier hopes for strengthened collaboration and relationships between both governments and ministries.

“He mentioned about the Sarawak Cancer Centre, where he emphasised his commitment to ensuring the project can be implemented. He gave assurance that the Sarawak government is ready to support the project in terms of funding if Putrajaya faces constraints,” he said.

Underscoring the urgency of the Sarawak Cancer Centre, Dr Dzulkefly noted the Premier’s firm stance against any delays due to the critical need for the facility in Sarawak.

“I respect and admire the Premier’s commitment and dedication. The needs and recommendations put forward are all very reasonable.

“I am also delighted to hear that Sarawak will continue to work closely with the Federal government and complementing efforts in various aspects including financially,” he said.

Dr Dzulkefly pledged to bring all the matters raised in the meeting to the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He emphasised that each recommendation from Sarawak will be discussed and studied in detail in a forthcoming meeting at the federal level to be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.

“Thereafter, I believe the setting up of working committees or action teams would follow,” he added.
