KUCHING, Dec 25: Sarawak is increasingly seen as Malaysia’s future, with strategic development initiatives, high-quality investments and expanding job opportunities positioning the State as a rising economic powerhouse of the nation.
Recognising this momentum, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed his commitment to stand together with Sarawak, assuring that the State remains a central focus of national development.
“Sarawak is becoming the main gateway for Asia-Pacific green investments,” he said in an infographic shared on his official social media platforms today.
He highlighted several key developments, including the RM184 million Batang Ai Floating Solar project, green hydrogen investments from Japan, South Korea and Europe, DHL’s logistics investment, as well as Sarawak’s growing role in global supply networks and digital investments in artificial intelligence and data centres.
According to Anwar, green energy projects are creating thousands of high-skilled technical jobs, while investments in the semiconductor and electrical and electronics (E&E) sectors are opening new pathways for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates and engineers.
At the same time, the development of methanol and hydrogen hubs is strengthening Sarawak’s heavy industrial base, alongside the expansion of logistics and aerospace sectors across the Kuching–Bintulu–Miri corridor.
“These industrial advancements will create greater opportunities for Anak Sarawak in the years ahead,” he said.
Anwar further underscored that Sarawak is set to become the nation’s future energy powerhouse through the rollout of green hydrogen projects, which are regarded as among the leading initiatives in the Asian region.
He added that the Madani government recognises the increasingly significant role played by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) in the development of the oil and gas sector in Sarawak’s waters.
“PETROS is being strengthened, and collaboration with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) is being expanded. This strategic cooperation will drive new exploration activities and gas development, contributing to higher State revenue through clearer resource-sharing arrangements,” he said.
The Prime Minister also emphasised that Sarawak is recognised as an equal partner within the Federation of Malaysia, with the State’s rights and autonomy being reinforced through the expedited resolution of issues under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) at the federal–Sarawak negotiation table.
“These include power transfer arrangements in education and healthcare, an increase in the special grant for Sarawak, and new agreements to ensure Sarawak’s voice is stronger in national policymaking,” he said.
He further noted that the federal government continues to prioritise the provision of basic infrastructure and amenities, from urban centres to rural areas, ensuring that no community is left behind through affordable housing initiatives and strengthened social support networks.
“Through prime ministerial-level visits to Kuching, Miri and Bintulu, I am giving continuous attention to Sarawak. Sarawak is progressing under Malaysia Madani,” he said. — DayakDaily
