SARAWAK’S projected revenue of RM15.091 billion for 2027 reflects the state’s stronger financial position and its ability to continue investing in development.
In stating this, Batu Kitang assemblyman, Lo Khere Chiang said that the projection was more than double the RM6.864 billion in annual revenue recorded when Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg took office in 2017.
“Some of us may recall being told in 2019 that Sarawak could go bankrupt within three years by a senior party member from the DAP.
“Well, here we are in 2026, discussing a Budget that projects record revenue of RM15.091 billion, development expenditure of RM10.098 billion, and a surplus of RM246 million,” he said when debating the Supply (2027) Bill, 2026 during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting today.
He also defended Sarawak’s major infrastructure investments, including roads, bridges, ports and the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system, saying they should be assessed based on their benefits to the state.
Responding to concerns raised by Padungan assemblyman, Chong Chieng Jen, over the state’s financial management and development spending, he cited the importance of investing in infrastructure to support Sarawak’s growth.
He said Sarawak’s development priorities should be considered fairly alongside major infrastructure projects in other states, including Penang’s Light Rail Transit (LRT) project and airport expansion.
“I have no objection to Penang receiving the infrastructure it needs. The people of Penang deserve progress and development, just as the people of Sarawak do,” he said.
Lo also highlighted Sarawak’s efforts to safeguard its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), particularly in relation to its oil and gas resources.
He said the state had continued to strengthen its economic foundations, expand its infrastructure and aviation capabilities, and prepare for opportunities in renewable energy, digital technology and artificial intelligence.
“These achievements are not because of luck. They are the result of hard work, sound planning and our Premier’s carefully considered strategy to build a stronger, more resilient and prosperous Sarawak,” he said.
