KUCHING (April 9): PSP Energy Bhd (PSP Energy) has formalised its participation in the Shell Carbon Compensation Programme (CCP) 2026, marking a continuation of its efforts to address operational carbon emissions.
The agreement was signed at Menara Shell, with the collaboration focusing on compensating lifecycle emissions associated with fuel consumption in the companyís operations.
The programme enables participating companies to offset emissions through carbon credits sourced from nature-based projects, with Shell responsible for calculating and retiring the credits.
“Participation in the programme represents a practical step in addressing emissions that remain unavoidable in current operations,” said PSP Energy group managing director Ong Chee Seng.
PSP Energy said the initiative aligns with its ongoing approach to integrate sustainability considerations into its business, particularly in sectors where diesel usage remains necessary.
The company had previously participated in the programme, receiving certification in January 2024 for the retirement of 729 carbon credits linked to its 2023 fuel usage.
“As an organisation operating in fuel and marine-related sectors, decarbonisation requires gradual and scalable measures that do not disrupt operational continuity,” Ong added.
The company noted that demand for viable decarbonisation pathways is increasing across transportation, marine, logistics, construction and industrial sectors.
It said collaborations with established energy providers and participation in structured carbon frameworks are part of its strategy to support a more sustainable energy value chain.
“Such partnerships allow the company to balance operational requirements with environmental responsibility while continuing to meet customer needs,” it said.
