KUCHING, May 15: Pujut assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang has urged the Land and Survey Department to give serious attention to long-standing implementation issues involving the Kampung Lusut Resettlement Scheme in Miri, where 231 households are still facing uncertainties despite having received approval letters for residential lots.
Speaking during the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the Yang di-Pertua Negeri’s (TYT) Address at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting today, Yii said many affected residents from Pujut Corner continued to face practical difficulties under the resettlement process.
He said approximately 231 households had previously received approval letters from the Land and Survey Department for residential lots under the Kampung Lusut Resettlement Scheme.
“However, until today, many affected residents are still facing various practical difficulties and uncertainties regarding the implementation of the resettlement process,” he said.
Among the major concerns raised, Yii said many recipients still do not know the exact location and boundary of the lots allocated to them even though approval letters had already been issued since August 2025.
He noted that many recipients were still waiting for proper site identification and verification to be carried out on the ground by the Land and Survey Department.
Yii also highlighted complaints that some of the allocated lots had allegedly been illegally occupied, including the construction of structures and agricultural activities such as planting vegetables and fruit trees.
“This has created confusion and concern among the rightful recipients,” he said.
In addition, he said some of the allocated areas still lacked proper accessibility and infrastructure, with many locations having no proper access roads while some sites were uneven, steep or unsuitable for immediate housing construction without further land improvement works.
He added that many of the affected households were from lower-income groups and lacked the financial capability to immediately construct new homes and relocate despite receiving land allocations.
Therefore, Yii called on the Land and Survey Department to strengthen and expedite the implementation process.
Among the measures he proposed were accelerating site verification and lot identification, resolving encroachment or overlapping occupation issues, improving infrastructure and accessibility to the allocated areas, as well as exploring suitable assistance schemes or phased support for low-income families to build their homes.
He stressed that effective implementation was critical to ensuring the people genuinely benefit from government initiatives and development plans. — DayakDaily
