SIBU (Sept 13): A total of 197 participants attended the Sarawak Sustainable Seminar Series II held at the state library here yesterday.
The seminar is a continuation of Series I which took place in Kuching, while Series III is scheduled to be held in Miri next year.
Organised by the Sarawak State Library (Pustaka Sarawak), the seminar aims to raise awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and educate the community on the 17 primary goals dedicated to addressing global challenges.
The SDG goals focused on in this series were Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being; Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities; and Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
Six working papers were presented by representatives from various agencies, including Sibu Health Office, National Anti-Drug Agency, and Sibu Municipal Council.
The presentations focused on the role of local agencies in achieving sustainable development goals.
As part of the programme, participants also had the opportunity to visit the temporary transit centre for the homeless as well as Destiny for Children Association to gain a clearer perspective on local social initiatives related to the SDGs.
Those present at the seminar included Pustaka Sarawak deputy chief executive officer (Operations) Wan Mazli Wan Razali, and deputy chief executive officer (Services) Salina Zawawi.
