KUCHING (March 4): Questions have been raised over Wilson Nyabong Ijang and Nicholas Kudi Jantai not being appointed to the supreme council of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) despite their posts as the respective assemblymen for Pelagus and Baleh.
PRS president Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai said it was “not necessary” for the party to fill all the vacant posts immediately after its triennial delegates conference (TDC), which was held on Oct 19 last year.
The Minister in the Premier’s Department and Kakus assemblyman, when contacted yesterday, did not elaborate.
In the TDC, Nyabong, then-PRS ordinary supreme council member, contested against Sikie for the presidency, while Kudi was unsuccessful in his bid for one of the five vice-president posts.
Sikie had informed that other appointed posts in the PRS supreme council went to Batang Ai assemblyman Datuk Malcolm Mussen Lamoh (PRS secretary-general); Selangau MP Edwin Banta (treasurer-general); Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan (publicity chief); Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon (deputy secretary-general); and Lubok Antu MP Roy Angau Gingkoi (deputy treasurer-general).
When contacted, Nyabong acknowledged that the appointment was Sikie’s prerogative as PRS president.
“We (him and Kudi) respect this. What’s important now is that we discharge our responsibility as elected representatives to strengthen our support base in our respective constituencies,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kudi in a statement said it was up to the party leadership to “decide and close the matter”.
“Personally, I am focusing on serving my constituents—not only uniting them but also organising development programmes in Baleh by facilitating the policies laid down by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“There are, indeed, so many plans to be arranged by Upper Rajang Development Authority chaired by Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi (Works Minister and Kapit MP). I love PRS and endeavour to strengthen it further,” he said.
