MIRI (July 31): Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) has held an engagement session in Miri with stakeholders for the Sarawak Border Project from Long Banga to Bario in Miri Division and Ba Kelalan in Limbang Division.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department and Highland Development Agency (HAD) deputy chairman Datuk Gerawat Gala in his Facebook post today said this meeting is important to get input and feedback regarding the proposed road alignment that will be developed later so that all aspects are evaluated and taken into account.

“In total, the total length of the road from Long Banga to Ba Kelalan is about 133km. The proposed road will be designed based on JKR standard R1 with R3 road formation width,” he said.

Gerawat, who is also Mulu assemblyman, said this project provides benefits and convenience for local residents in addition to reducing travel time.

“It will also provide better access roads to government facilities outside the city such as border control posts, rural service centres, health clinics and government offices in the interior bordering Kalimantan of Indonesia,” he added.

Recoda has been mandated by the federal government through the Ministry of Economy to implement the Sarawak Border Project, which includes two key roads – one from Long Banga to Bario and another from Bario to Ba Kelalan.

The engagement session was held to ensure the smooth execution of this project.

Recoda CEO Datu Ismawi Ismuni, in his briefing, emphasised that all aspects of the project must be considered and evaluated, not only to enhance the road network but also to prioritise safety in the border area between Sarawak and Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Also present at the meeting were Lawas MP Dato Henry Sum Agong, Ba Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian, Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) director Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latip, HAD director Samuel Belawan and Recoda Project Management Division director Mohamad Safri Ibrahim.
