KUCHING (Aug 17): Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Ugggah Embas has called on members of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) youth movement committee to actively recruit new members.

In making this call, the party’s deputy president emphasised that this effort is crucial to further strengthen the party.

“The future will be very challenging and full of uncertainties. However, by recruiting more members, we can fortify the party and ensure its continued relevance.

“Efforts in this direction must be continuous and committed,” he said in a statement.

Uggah, who is also PBB Bukit Saban branch chairman, said this during a meeting with state PBB youth committee members at Rumah Kelimbang in Penyulok, Ulu Layar in Betong today.

The group, led by Machan assemblyman and the movement’s deputy chief Allan Siden Gramong, was on a statewide visit to selected rural locations.

Uggah noted that the visits would be beneficial for gathering feedback on the people’s expectations, hopes and frustrations regarding development programmes and project implementation.

“Through this initiative, we get to know if the various government programmes, subsidies as well as educational and welfare aids reach the target groups.

“We must not be deaf to any grievances, as they could turn into issues in the coming state election.”

Uggah, also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, also urged the committee members to help monitor the implementation of rural transformation projects in their areas to ensure they are completed on schedule and with quality.

“You will be doing a great service to the people and to Sarawak as we all want to prevent ‘sick’ or critically delayed projects from happening again.”

Later, when speaking to the media on a related matter, Uggah dismissed a recent social media post alleging 340 sick and 40 critically sick projects still existing in the state as ‘mischievous and false’.

“We have drastically reduced the number to just two or three.

“We have also implemented new regulations to address this issue and taken action against contractors who failed to deliver, showing that we mean business,” he said.

Also present during the visit was Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu.
