KUCHING (Feb 19): Visitors to Ramadan bazaars in Kuching North are urged to lodge reports with the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) if they notice traders failing to meet cleanliness standards.

Kuching North Datuk Bandar Dato Hilmy Othman emphasised that hygiene remains a top priority throughout the Ramadan bazaar operations.

“I urge all traders to cooperate with DBKU in maintaining cleanliness. Cleanliness is of utmost importance.

“To visitors visiting the bazaars, please observe whether our traders comply with hygiene standards. Let us work together to ensure safety for everyone,” he told reporters during the opening of the Satok Ramadan Bazaar here, officiated by Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy and Petros) and Satok assemblyman Ibrahim Baki.

He added that the Health Ministry will continue carrying out routine inspections, including periodic collection of food samples for laboratory testing.

“The Health Ministry will carry out its duties as usual by taking samples periodically for analysis at their offices.

“They will identify if there are cases of food poisoning or unsafe food being sold. This is done every year,” he said.

The Satok Ramadan Bazaar, organised by DBKU, runs daily from Feb 19 until March 20 and remains one of the city’s main hotspots for breaking-of-fast delicacies.

This year, 108 stalls have been set up, comprising 82 food stalls, 22 beverage stalls and four grilled food stalls. Operating hours are from 2pm to 7pm daily.

To promote environmental responsibility, DBKU is also providing 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) bins and compost bins at bazaar locations, while enforcement officers, in collaboration with relevant agencies, continue to monitor operations.
