KOTA KINABALU (March 8): The Bingkor Welfare Association has voiced support for the call by the Chief Minister’s chief political secretary Azrul Ibrahim urging the federal government not to delay the implementation of Sabah’s 40 per cent net revenue entitlement as ruled by the High Court.

Its chairman Yazid Mohd Hasnan Tawik @ Charles said Putrajaya must show a clear and immediate commitment to enforcing the court decision as a sign of respect for Sabah’s rights and the interests of its people.

He added that if there are constraints in terms of implementation mechanisms or financial capacity, a phased payment approach would be more reasonable and would reflect the federal government’s good intentions.

“The High Court decision on Oct 17, 2025 confirming Sabah’s right to 40 per cent of the net revenue is an important recognition of Sabah’s position as enshrined in the Federal Constitution and the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said in a statement.

Yazid stressed that the people of Sabah have long awaited a fair resolution on this matter, and any delay would only cause unease and foster negative perceptions among the public.

He urged the federal government to adopt a more proactive approach by initiating partial payments of the entitlement while further negotiations on the exact amount and calculation formula are finalised between the Federal and State Governments.

“In the spirit of a fair and just Malaysian Federation, we hope this resolution can be expedited so that Sabah’s rights are respected and implemented without further delay,” he said.
