APM personnel recording floodwater levels at Jalan Sekara.
SELANGAU (Jan 3): Several roads along the Batang Oya River near Stapang have been affected by rising water levels, despite clear weather conditions reported on Saturday morning.
According to a monitoring report by the Selangau Civil Defence Force (APM), inspections conducted between 9.35am and 10.51am found that low-lying areas began to flood due to increasing river levels, with water movement from upstream pushing overflow towards downstream sections.
At Jalan Nanga Tamin Lorong 4 (Simpang Rumah Lesia), floodwater was recorded at approximately 0.11 metres above the road surface. However, the road remains passable to all types of vehicles.
In contrast, Jalan Sekara leading to Nanga Tamin has been submerged by floodwaters measuring between 0.34 and 0.40 metres, rendering the road impassable to traffic for the time being.
Selangau APM officer Lt (PA) Luke Douglas Dongum said observations along the Batang Oya riverbank confirmed a rising trend in river levels, based on readings at the Tamin Station.

The authorities are continuing to monitor the floodwater level at Jalan Nanga Tamin Lorong 4.
“Although several roads have been affected, all longhouses along the riverbank remain safe and the situation is currently under control.
“Some residents living downstream of the Batang Oya River are now using boats as an alternative means of transport to reach Stapang town,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
The monitoring operation involved one officer and four APM personnel, supported by a four-wheel-drive vehicle and safety equipment.
APM has advised residents in low-lying areas to remain alert and to follow updates from the authorities should river levels continue to rise.
