According to a press release from the Office of the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the proposed construction of the new clinic is a joint project between the Sarawak Health Department (JKNS) and the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).
“The proposed construction of the new Spaoh Clinic is a RM35 million project implemented through collaboration between the Sarawak Health Department (JKNS) and the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA).
“It is currently at the tender stage, with the project expected to commence soon,” the statement said.
The development status of the project was among updates revealed during a site visit by Uggah across N.37 Bukit Saban recently. He was accompanied by Betong MP, Richard Rapu.
Uggah, who is also the Bukit Saban assemblyman, also visited several development sites and received briefings on ongoing and planned infrastructure projects in the constituency.
Among them was the handing over of 32 approval letters under the Rural Transformation Project (RTP), amounting to RM5 million, for rural infrastructure upgrades and community development initiatives in Bukit Saban.
The delegation also visited the newly completed GIATMARA Spaoh, which is scheduled to begin operations in July, offering vocational training in tailoring and electrical skills for local youths.
Uggah further inspected upgrading works at the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA) office in Spaoh, which is expected to be completed by September 2026, as well as development initiatives in Tanjung Sebekut.
For Tanjung Sebekut, approvals have been granted for water supply (RM3 million) and electricity (RM3.5 million) connection works, totalling RM6.5 million, to support the growing residential population in the area.
On broader development planning, Uggah highlighted the integration of agricultural development through the 750-hectare Bebuling Agropark, supported by infrastructure including a STOLport and CPPC facilities, aimed at boosting agro-based production, creating job opportunities and improving market access.
He also noted the recent launch of the Bukit Sadok tourism product featuring the Rentap Fortress replica, which is expected to further enhance Betong’s tourism potential.
“These coordinated efforts reflect our long-term strategy to uplift communities, strengthen economic resilience, and ensure sustainable growth.
“By 2030, the aim is to significantly raise income levels, expand access to quality education, and advance sustainable development across Sarawak,” he reportedly said. — DayakDaily
