BELAGA, May 28: The RM36 million Sungai Asap Digital Village (SADV) project is currently underway to further strengthen rural digital economy development, particularly in the Sungai Asap and Murum areas.

Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon said the project involves the deployment of high-speed internet infrastructure through fibre optic technology, as part of ongoing efforts to narrow the digital divide between urban and rural communities.

“I hope this project can proceed smoothly and be completed according to schedule without any disruptions, as it represents a major step towards bridging the digital gap between urban and rural areas,” he said as per reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

He made these remarks when officiating the Ladong Bio Lepa Ajau 2026 Persatuan Kebangsaan Kenyah Sarawak (PKKS) Sungai Asap Belaga Branch opening ceremony at the Uma Kulit Hall on Tuesday (May 26).

More importantly, he added that the project will act as a catalyst for digital economic growth in rural communities.

In line with the SADV development, Chukpai had also proposed the establishment of a Smart Agriculture Transformation Centre (SATC) within the Bakun Resettlement Scheme (BRS) area in Sungai Asap during the previous Sarawak Legislative Assembly sitting.

He said the proposed SATC would function as a smart farming hub, integrating modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation, the Internet of Things (IoT), agricultural drones, and other advanced precision farming tools.

He expressed confidence that with these initiatives in place, Sungai Asap and Murum could emerge as models of progressive, technology-driven rural development. — DayakDaily
