“This will provide a significant boost, particularly to digital infrastructure in the Kuching area, and the project is valued at an estimated RM550 million,” he added.

He said this after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today.

The MoU was signed by Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din and Sarawak Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government (MPHLG) Permanent Secretary Datu Elizabeth Loh, witnessed by Abang Johari and Fahmi.

The initiative brings together the federal and Sarawak governments to leverage digital technologies, data and AI to improve urban management, strengthen public safety, expand digital access and create new economic opportunities.

Its initial coverage will include Greater Kuching, encompassing DBKU, Kuching South City Council (MBKS), Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS).

The project will introduce AI and data-driven services, an integrated city platform and stronger digital infrastructure to improve traffic management, public facilities and emergency response, with cybersecurity, data protection and inclusivity built into its implementation.

It will also cover urban safety monitoring, emergency response support, public Wi-Fi, digital twin technology and the development of a Network Operations Centre (NOC). – DayakDaily
