“The main components include upgrading spectator seating, installing a new LED lighting system and LED screen, upgrading ticket counters, repairing changing rooms, toilets and surau facilities, as well as improving existing infrastructure,” he said in responding to Tuponng assemblyman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman during the question-and-answer session in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) Sitting today.

He explained that the upgrades are aimed at ensuring the stadium meets the latest standards set by Fédération Internationale de Football Association and the Asian Football Confederation, while creating a safer and more conducive environment for hosting football competitions at various levels.

According to him, the enhanced facilities will also support tournaments such as the Sarawak Premier League, which serves as a key platform for nurturing local talent and community clubs before they progress to higher levels of competition.

He added that grassroots development programmes, including the PETRONAS Youth Football Club League, stand to benefit from improved facilities that can better accommodate training, competitions and structured youth development initiatives.

“The involvement of the Football Association of Sarawak and Kuching City FC will help strengthen the player development pathway from grassroots to the professional level, while supporting the growth of a more sustainable and competitive football ecosystem in Sarawak,” he added. — DayakDaily
