KOTA KINABALU (March 12): In conjunction with Rotary Community Service Day and the blessed month of Ramadan, the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl hosted a heartwarming Majlis Buka Puasa (Iftar) for 30 children from the Sembulan Orphanage and their caregivers.

The meaningful evening was led by Club President Datin Dr Jeanette Tambakau, who together with fellow Pearls, spent time sharing a meal, laughter, and the spirit of compassion with the children.

The gathering reflected Rotary’s enduring commitment to uplifting communities and bringing hope to those who need it most.

After breaking fast and performing the evening prayers, Jeanette presented Duit Raya to the children and their caregivers.

Several club members also generously shared personal contributions and small goodies so the children could enjoy their own little treats — an act that brought smiles, excitement, and extra joy to the evening.

Seeing the children happily enjoying their meal and celebrating together was truly heartwarming.

The evening also created a meaningful space for fellowship among club members while embracing the spirit of giving and gratitude that defines Ramadan.

The club extends its heartfelt appreciation to Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki, Chief Executive Officer of Sabah International Convention Centre, for kindly sponsoring the Buka Puasa gathering and making the evening possible.

As President of the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl, Jeanette also expressed sincere gratitude to Community Service Chair Datuk Aminah Ambrose and all fellow Pearls who came together to bring light, hope, and joy to the children during this special occasion.

Appreciation was also extended to the club’s Friends of Rotary who joined the evening and shared in this beautiful moment of compassion, unity, and fellowship.

The event reflected the true essence of Rotary’s guiding principle — Service Above Self— demonstrating how small acts of kindness can brighten lives and strengthen the bonds of community.
