RANAU (Jan 16): The Rotary Club of Likas Bay recently visited three schools in the Ranau District with a single mission — to support the future generation through a meaningful school bag donation initiative.

A total of 222 school bags were distributed to students, comprising 30 bags to SK Kimondou, 50 bags to SK Kinirasan, and 142 bags to SK Paginatan.

According to Club President Aldrin Wong, while the donation may seem modest, it carries great significance and hope.

“These school bags symbolise our support for rural communities and our commitment to helping parents and families prepare their children for school. More importantly, they remind students that they are not alone in their journey of seeking knowledge,” he said.

Wong encouraged students to stay focused on their studies, stressing that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future.

“Whether you dream of becoming a doctor, pilot, teacher or successful entrepreneur, there are no shortcuts to success. Success begins in the classroom — today, in this very school,” he added.

He also urged students to make full use of the school supplies received.

“Fill these bags with books of knowledge and fill your minds with learning. Be excellent students and good children. Education is the path to success, and we pray that all of you will achieve great things in the future.”

The Rotary Club of Likas Bay expressed its deepest appreciation to the headmasters and teachers of the three schools for their warm hospitality and trust in allowing the club to carry out the community project.

“Your dedication and service in educating the nation’s children will never be forgotten,” Wong said.

The objectives of the programme were to ease the financial burden on parents, motivate and encourage students to attend school, and strengthen cooperation between schools and non-governmental organisations.

The initiative had a positive impact, benefiting 222 students who were visibly delighted to receive the school bags. It also strengthened the relationship between the Rotary Club of Likas Bay and the participating schools, with the programme carried out smoothly and successfully.
