KOTA KINABALU (March 9): In conjunction with Rotary International Community Service Day, the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl organized a meaningful community outreach programme focused on health awareness and community empowerment on March 7 at the Madsiang Community Learning Centre in Penampang.
The programme was conducted in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Penampang and healthcare partners.
A total of 62 residents from Kampung Madsiang and surrounding areas benefited from the free health screening services.
Services provided included physical examinations, blood pressure checks, bood glucose tests, urine tests, health counselling, HPV DNA screening for eligible women.
The initiative aimed to promote early detection of health conditions and encourage preventive healthcare, particularly among communities in the B40 income group.
The programme received an encouraging response from local residents, reflecting growing awareness and interest in health education and regular health screenings.
The Rotary Club of KK Pearl expressed its sincere appreciation to Jayne Stephen of Borneo Sinarmas for collaborating with the club to extend health services for this Health Awareness Programme.
Special thanks were also extended to Juddy Lasius of Moyog Innovation House for kindly providing the venue and helping to promote the programme among the villagers.
Juddy also invited several local social entrepreneurs and food stall operators to participate, creating an opportunity for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products. This initiative further supported local economic empowerment alongside health awareness.
At the closing of the event, Datin Dr Jeanette Tambakau, President of the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl, presented a token of appreciation to Juddy in recognition of her efforts in supporting the programme.
The club also extended its appreciation to Datuk Aminah Ambrose, Community Service Chair of the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl, for leading and coordinating the programme so successfully.
The programme was supported by members from Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu Pearl, Rotary Club of Penampang and Rotary Club of Makati Emerald.
“It was heartening to see residents take part in essential health screenings — from basic medical consultations to blood pressure and general health assessments. Initiatives like this highlight the importance of early detection and preventive healthcare for the well-being of our community. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to all Rotarians and Friends of Rotary who supported, attended, and assisted in making this programme a success,” said Jeanette.
This meaningful collaboration reflects Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self,” bringing together partners, volunteers, and community members to improve health awareness while supporting local livelihoods.
