KUCHING, Dec 21: Updating old birth certificates is a crucial step to prevent difficulties in future dealings with government departments and agencies, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said.

According to a TVS news report, he urged rural residents, particularly those holding late-registered red birth certificates, to check and update their personal details with the National Registration Department (JPN), noting that some older certificates do not contain complete information, such as the holder’s race.

“Missing details could complicate identity verification and other official processes. Those who have red birth certificates without their race stated should update their documents.

“In the future, authorities may require this information for official purposes, and incomplete details can create problems, as I experienced myself a few months ago,” he told reporters after attending a Leaders with the People Programme and Mobile Service Counter here on Saturday (Dec 20).

Highlighting the simplicity of the process, Uggah noted that JPN issues fully updated duplicate certificates and called on rural and interior residents to update their birth certificates without delay. — DayakDaily
