SELANGAU (Feb 6): Longhouse residents at the Sekuau resettlement scheme are now enjoying safer and more comfortable connectivity following the successful completion and handover of two Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects under the Tamin constituency.

Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang said the projects, which involved upgrading farm roads and Jalan Rumah Janting, have directly improved daily mobility and economic activities for rural communities.

“The completion of farm roads, particularly those serving oil palm plantations, is an important catalyst for increasing agricultural output.

“Access for machinery and transportation of produce can now be carried out more efficiently and systematically, indirectly boosting the income of oil palm smallholders in the area,” he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Beyond economic benefits, Gira highlighted that the RTP projects have also enhanced road safety and comfort, especially for longhouse residents who rely on these routes for daily activities, schooling, and inter-community connectivity.

He noted that the Sarawak government’s ongoing efforts in implementing high-impact projects like these reflect its commitment to strengthening rural infrastructure development in line with the actual needs of the people.

“The RTP projects in Sekuau are part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the rural economy and improve the well-being of residents,” he said.

Gira also stressed that infrastructure development, such as farm roads, is not merely a physical facility but a strategic investment to ensure economic sustainability and elevate the quality of life for local communities.

The project handover ceremony was witnessed by representatives from Public Works Department (JKR) Sibu, Tamin Service Centre officer Councillor Ajan Dau, longhouse representatives, and the contractors involved in the project implementation.
