KUCHING, Oct 14: The Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) today passed the Supplementary Supply (2026) Bill, 2026 without amendments, approving an additional RM120,003,793 in ordinary expenditure for the year.

Tabled by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Second Finance Minister and Minister of New Economy, the Bill provides additional funding for services across various ministries and departments for which allocations were not provided or were insufficient under the original 2026 expenditure estimates and the first supplementary estimate.

The additional expenditure is detailed in Command Paper No. 10 of 2026, while the second supplementary estimate of ordinary expenditure is contained in Command Paper No. 9 of 2026.

The latest approval comes as Sarawak’s estimated ordinary expenditure for 2026 has risen from RM12.905 billion to RM14.348 billion, an increase of RM1.443 billion or 11.2 per cent, according to figures presented by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg when tabling the Sarawak Budget 2027 on Oct 12.

As of Sept 30, RM9.434 billion, or 66 per cent of the revised ordinary expenditure allocation, had been utilised. This comprised RM3.959 billion in operating expenditure and RM5.475 billion allocated to statutory funds.

For development expenditure, RM5.604 billion, or 58 per cent of the RM9.663 billion allocation, had been spent over the same period.

In May, the Assembly approved the first Supplementary Supply (2026) Bill, 2026, providing RM1.323 billion in additional ordinary expenditure and RM391 million in development expenditure for various government commitments, infrastructure works and State programmes.

During today’s sitting, the Committee of Supply considered the second supplementary estimate and the Bill before agreeing to them without amendments.

The Bill was subsequently read a third time and passed by the Assembly. —DayakDaily
