KUCHING, Mar 11: Sarawak is increasingly being recognised as a promising investment destination, with France expressing keen interest in collaborating on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as well as strategic industries including oil and gas and clean energy.
According to a news report by TVS, the possible areas of cooperation were discussed during a courtesy call by France’s Ambassador to Malaysia Marc Abensour on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Satria Ibu Pertiwi Complex here today.
A statement from the French Embassy said the meeting focused on strengthening engagement in sectors of shared interest, beginning with collaboration in TVET aimed at supporting the development of a skilled workforce.
In addition, both sides exchanged views on potential partnerships in the maritime and aviation industries.
The discussions also extended to opportunities within the oil and gas sector, covering both upstream and downstream activities, as well as cooperation in emerging clean energy technologies such as carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).
The embassy further noted that Sarawak is increasingly being recognised as an attractive destination for investment, citing the State’s strong industrial base and abundant renewable energy resources.
It added that Sarawak’s political stability provides investors with confidence by offering a secure and predictable environment for long-term investment.
The statement also highlighted that the areas of cooperation discussed are aligned with Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which emphasises sustainable economic growth, renewable energy development and digital transformation.
The French delegation also included Ambassador Datuk Fenny Nuli, deputy economic counsellor Bouthaina Harfi, and counsellor for cooperation and cultural affairs at the French Embassy in Malaysia Thierry d’Anna.
Abensour is currently on a two-day official visit to Sarawak, marking his first trip to the State since assuming office as France’s ambassador to Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur in January this year. — DayakDaily
