KUCHING (Aug 28): The Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project is progressing well and remains on track without any issues, said Sarawak Metro chief executive officer Mazli Mustaffa.

Mazli noted that while minor challenges, particularly with the weather, have been encountered, they have not affected the overall progress of the project.

“Overall, we are still on track, despite the unusual weather with daily rain.

“However, we’ve managed to keep the project moving forward,” he said at a press conference following a briefing on the Road Safety Awareness Campaign held at the Integrated Project Management Complex for the KUTS Project at Jalan Lapangan Terbang here today.

When asked about any constraints, Mazli mentioned that there haven’t been many significant obstacles so far.

“But as I mentioned earlier, the weather is our main challenge. It’s difficult to carry out construction work, especially earthworks, in such conditions.

“For instance, even though we’re not yet in the monsoon season, it rained heavily yesterday. These are challenges we must face and manage,” he added.

Regarding the campaign, Mazli explained that the primary purpose of the initiative was to raise awareness among private vehicle users about the ongoing activities related to the KUTS project.

“One of the key goals is to educate the public, as this project is highly relevant to road users, especially given the scale of the KUTS mega project.

“It’s important for us to conduct this public awareness campaign,” he said.

He also acknowledged that complaints are inevitable in large projects like KUTS.

“If there were no complaints, it would be unrealistic. We’ve received some, mostly related to traffic, but these are not major issues. We address public complaints as quickly as possible.

“Another goal of this campaign is to remind both the public and contractors that the work must adhere to established standards. By doing so, InshaAllah, we can avoid unwanted accidents or incidents,” he said.
